[ACTUALIZACIÓN DICIEMBRE 2012] A presión social consegue que a Xunta desautorice as fumigacións aéreas co pesticida Cascade.
Flufenoxuron kills honey bees and other insect pollinators (even the manufacturers recognize that it kills the larvae of bees). These pollinators play an important role in the ecosystems of forests and in market gardens. The wholesale spraying of Galicia with Flufenoxuron will contribute significantly to the current decline of the bee population.
If there are no bees this will have profound effects on the local ecosystem, as there will be nobody to pollinate our plants, this in turn will create an ever deepening imbalance.
Flufenoxuron has been designated as harmful and is to be banned by the EU as of 1st August 2012. The local government and the paper manufactures are proposing to spray Flufenoxuron over our forests to kill an outbreak the eucalyptus snout beetle, thereby increasing their profits at the expense of Galicia’s wildlife and ecosystem. Our groundwater will be polluted by this pesticide and it will enter into our food chain. We need your help to stop this happening, so please sign our petition.
